“This page has been prepared to provide you with more scientific information about Kendamil, outlining some of the main differences from other familiar infant formulas and helping you advise those in your care.” – Ross McMahon, CEO Kendal Nutricare.
Breastfeeding is the best for babies. But sometimes mothers need an alternative, they trust Healthcare Professionals like yourself for information and advice.
We all agree breastmilk provides babies with the best source of nutrition. It can protect babies against infections and reduces the rates of later health problems including diabetes, obesity and asthma.
Our infant formulas and follow-on milks are here to be used when babies cannot be breastfed. The decision to stop breastfeeding can be difficult to reverse. Introducing partial bottle feeding can lead to a reduction in the breastmilk mother’s produce.
Using a breast milk substitute is more expensive than breastfeeding. Infant formula and follow-on milks should be used with advice from a health care professional. Failure to do so may be harmful to the baby’s health.
Why is Kendamil formula different?
We investigated why all formulas using skimmed milk contain between 22 – 30% vegetable oils, when these oils are primarily used for cooking and making soap?
We know Mothers breast milk contains more than 51% saturated, mammals milk fats. Twenty years ago almost all infant formulas contained full-cream milk fats. Therefore we asked ‘why the change?’ and we were told, ‘to save money’.
We also questioned why their was such a rise in eczema, colic constipation and disrupted sleep, and why the industry invented “Hungry Milk” formula? Our research and findings inspired us to go back to using full-cream milk, with less oils with case studies to show that this results in happier babies with better sleeping patterns.
We believe obesity is starting with infants being bottle fed on formulas containing between 20% and 30% vegetable oils or oils traditionally used to make soap. Animal milk fats are closer in structure to breast milk fats than vegetable fats & oils.
Studies have proven that Palmitic Acid in Palm oil binds with free calcium ions , reducing the absorption of calcium to the infant and also leading to the production of soapy curds in the gut and constipation in the bowel. Kendamil contains no Palm oil.
We Believe that adding back micronutrients found naturally in milk e.g. lactoferrin, alpha lactalbumin, L Carnitine and individual amino acids is confusing consumers and is not a bonus for consumers, but merely giving them back token amounts of what was removed from the natural cream in milk. This is why Kendamil uses full-cream milk.
Industry has created products called “Hungry Baby” , Anti Colic, Anti Reflux , to cure the problems that they themselves created and are using all sorts of cheap ingredients far away from Breast milk constituents, eg Carob bean gum, locust bean gum, glucose syrup, maltodextrin and starches to artificially give infants a feeling of satiety.
